What is the recipe that schools need to help create a healthier next generation:
-
a government willing to invest in healthier school lunch programs and nutrition education
-
healthier foods served in the school across America
-
making sure children have a healthy breakfast each morning so their brains are charged and ready to learn
-
providing access to healthier snack choices
The USDA is happy to report that after investing 200 million dollars to schools and 160 million dollars to improving kitchen facilities, 91% of schools now report they are meeting the new nutrition standards.
The USDA is also happy to share the according to their data, children are now eating:
-
16% more veggies at lunch
-
23% more fruit at lunch
