How many kids are affected by local Farm to School programs- you may be surprised!

I have been talking about the Farm to School month and a great way to remind children where food really comes from.  Farm to school programs are not just about where food comes from.  Ultimately, it is about feeding children healthy fresh foods.  You might also be surprised by the impact thier educational program has.

I am a big love of infographics because it is a fun way and visually appealing way to share some great facts!

You might be surprised to know:

  • $354,599,266 in school food dollars was invested in local communities in 2011 and 2012.
  • 56% of schools say they will buy more local food in the future.  Expect growth in local plant based proteins, grains, meat, poultry and eggs.
  • 38,629 schools are buying foods for the cafeteria from local growers
  • 21,008,254 students are learning to make lifelong healthy eating choices through farm to school programs

Nourish Thought for the Day:

Celebrate National Farm to School Month with healthy foods at home and at school from local growers.
