Get The Kids Active And Enjoying Family Time During National Screen Free Week

Posted on Apr 18, 2012 by Maggie LaBarbera

It is that time again where we ask you to participate in the National Screen Free Week.  This year it takes place during April 30 through May 6th.

There are so many reasons to participate:
  • great way to get the kids off the couch
  • create a family challenge to make more family time
  • engage, socialize and really share your day without the distraction of the TV
  • helps provide opportunities to promote an active lifestyle
  • models healthy behaviors to the kids

It is too easy to keep adding more shows to watch especially with the invention of tivo.  This is a great time to readjust priorities and habits and get back on track.

You might be wondering how you could possibly make it without tv?

What about your favorite shows?

The kids will go crazy?

You know I thought that too.  But when we took a family trip to my mother's town 16000 ft in the Andes Mountains, where they don't have electricity, my kids survived.  And you know what, we had a lot of fun.  We played cards, took walks, shared stories...  It wasn't as hard as we thought and the kids actually enjoyed it!
