There are genetically modified organisms that are in many foods that you eat every day. But you wouldn't know it because the FDA does not require GMOs to be labeled. sign the petition
Genetically modifed foods or organisms (GMOs) are organisms that have had their DNA altered in some way. This relatively new science allows DNA (genetic material) from one species to be transferred into another species, creating transgenic organisms with combinations of genes from plants, animals, bacteria, and even viral gene pools. The mixing of genes from different species that have never shared genes in the past is what makes GMOs and GE crops so unique. It is impossible to create such transgenic organisms through traditional crossbreeding methods.
The concern is that we really do not know how eating GMOs will affect our health longterm and there is no regulations required to test for this.
Most GMO ingredients are products made from the big four: corn, soybeans, canola and cotton seed.
Label It organization is leading the fight to get GMOs labeling required.
It only takes a minute or less of your time to sign the petition.
We all have the right to know what is in our foods so that we can make informed decisions for our own bodies and for our family.
Here is a video that talks more about GMOs.
