I love avocados. I grew up with avocados as a household staple. And I even had avocado sandwiches (no mayo just plain avocado on whole wheat with a sprinkle of salt). Still one of my favs!
If you are looking for some great 4th of July recipes, here are some great avocado red, white and blue (maybe a little green too;-)
Avocados provide nearly 20 essential nutrients, including fiber, potassium, Vitamin E, B-vitamins and folic acid. They also act as a "nutrient booster" by enabling the body to absorb more fat-soluble nutrients, such as alpha and beta-carotene and lutein, in foods that are eaten with the fruit.
So I was excited to hear that this week is actually National California Avocado Week. And to kick it off, there are some events being held in Disneyland!
This tasty fruit (which many think it is a vegetable but it's not) will be the center of cooking demonstrations from chefs and guacamole contests.
This will be happening all week long from July 1 through July 7.
Event kick-off - Sunday, July 1, 2012, with activities throughout the week:
- 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. – Chef Demonstrations with Downtown Disney Executive Chef (see Chef Demo Calendar below)
- 6:10 – 6:45 p.m. – Guacamole Contest with participating audience members
- 2:00 – 4:00 PM – Mini California Avocado facials at Sephora
