October, the leaves are changing colors and soon Halloween will be upon us.
But October is also a key month for a few key themes that I want to remind you of because they represent great topics for dinner conversation with the kids!
October is:
This is just to name a few of the many awareness topics focusing on health!
Take this month to talk with your children about some of these special events and why they are so important. As a family you can choose one topic to focus on and come up with one action that you can do each week to support this month!
I find that children are excited about events and asking them to be part of a celebration doesn't have to sound like "fun" but can actually be FUN! Children are filled with so many ideas and they should be part of the conversation. Make a list together as a family of some ways to celebrate this month as a family or individually.
Sometimes, I get asked if I had to pick one thing to focus on during the month what would it be. My answer would be family meals together as a family!
Making mealtime an important family event is one key way to celebrate healthy family month and children's health month. Did you know that kids who eat dinner regularly with the parents tend to make healthier food choices?
If you think about all the things children learn while at the dinner table, it is pretty impressive!
Whatever event you choose to focus on, involve the children and talk about ways to support that event. One simple task/action a week can go a long way in raising awareness and imprinting the importance in their minds.
As always, keep it fun and positive. No tears, no punishment. This is a time to work together as a family and enjoy the experience!
