Summer learning - don't let your kids experience a summer slide in knowledge

Posted on Jul 31, 2013 by Maggie LaBarbera

Summer is here for a few more weeks and then kids are back to school.  But did summer take a little toll on your child's learning?

There is a great deal of focus on the importance of keeping kids mentally and cognitively engaged during summer so their brains don't experience summer learning loss.

This graphic focuses on statistics on children from lower income families that do not have the means to put their kids in continued education summer programs.  But I think this speaks to any child, regardless of income level, that the brain needs to worked in order to keep sharp.

There are many ways, inexpensive ways, to keep children actively learning during summer.

the library is free and keeping kids reading is great way to keep their reading, comprehension and vocabulary skills sharp during summer.

Print out free printables in our printables section and have kids do worksheets that focus on importance of nutrition while keeping their reading and writing skills.
