Together: Clean the asparagus and cut off the first inch of the woody stock.
Kids: Spread the asparagus spears on a baking sheet and brush with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper.
Adults: Place the baking sheet on the top rack of the oven until the stalks begin to get tender, about 10 minutes. (Thinner asparagus will take less time).
Adults: Remove the baking sheet from the oven; sprinkle the parmesan cheese over the top of the asparagus and roast for another 30 seconds. Remove from oven and serve.
