Kids' Halloween Recipes |Healthy Seasonal Recipes | Healthy Halloween Ideas ‘Sweets and treats’ often take center stage for the Halloween holiday, which is a concern for parents as we try to limit kids junk and high sugar foods. For a healthy twist, we have suggestions on using Halloween as an opportunity to teach kids to use moderation, encourage healthy choices, get your kids involved in cooking, and to learn about seasonal vegetables and balanced nutrition.

You can use Halloween as a time to be a role model and show your children that you spend time thinking about healthier choices. This helps kids learn that healthy eating is very important to you and the family. Always keeping it fun and a positive experience, you can make it a game to 'hunt' in the grocery store for healthier choices. You can teach your children to read food labels to find the treats that are lower in sugar and gather up seasonal fruits and vegetables to cook a new recipe together!

Cooking and Colors of the Season:

Orange seasonal vegetables are abundant in Autumn and are good sources of beta carotene, vitamin A, vitamin C, folate, potassium and fiber.

Pumpkins take center stage and the season offers many high nutrition choices of orange colored vegetables, it can be fun to together to grocery produce isle or a local farmers market and find all the orange vegetables with your child. Then pick a few to take home and cook a fresh seasonal veggie, from squashes to carrots it is a great way to show kids there is more to the season than candy!

Celebrate the season and enjoy the harvest of seasonal fruits and vegetables such a apples, pumpkins, kale and root vegetables. Encourage your child to help with cooking and try a new seasonal food recipe together!
