Chef Solus' Food Words Search Game:
This is a word search game with two difficulty levels in which the students look for words related to General Food Knowledge, Grains, Vegetables, Fruit, Milk, or Meat.

There are two levels of difficulty:
  • The Easy Wordsearch has an 8 x 8 letter grid with 7 words to find in the word search; words are vertical, horizontal, diagonal, forwards and backwards. The font size is larger for younger readers.
  • The Hard Wordsearch has an 12 x 12 letter grid and has 15 words to find in the word search; words are vertical, horizontal, diagonal, forwards and backwards.
Each level has it's own timer so that the students can measure how long each word search takes.

When students find a word amongst the jumble, they click and drag their mouse over the word and it will become encircled. Students will try to locate all the words from the list.

Materials:
Computer and Internet access, the latest Flash and Shockwave players installed, download free from Adobe

Teaching Tips:
Have the student review the Interactive Food Pyramid or My Plate.

Procedure:
  1. Guide the students to Chef Solus Word Search Puzzle
  2. After the students have found all the words, have the students take turns defining the words that appear in the food category selected. Do they see or hear those words often? Where do they see or hear them? Ask them to look at the various words in the puzzle and determine what message the puzzle is saying about that food group.

Note: The Word Search puzzles and their Answer Keys are also available for print in the Free Printables section.
